Your Week in Troy: August 23–29, 2026

School starts Tuesday, football opens Thursday, a new county park is coming — and Troy went 4–0 last week.

The Weather: Cool Sunday, Storms on Football Night

Today brings scattered rain — about a tenth of an inch with a 51% chance, under a high of 82°.

Sunday is the week's outlier. The high drops to 72°, nearly ten degrees below today and the coolest day in weeks, with a morning low of 58°. Overcast but dry.

Monday and Tuesday are the stretch to use: no measurable rain at all, climbing from 78° to 82°. Tuesday morning starts at 56°, so send the kids out with a layer on the first day back.

Wednesday warms to 86° with scattered showers and a 37% chance. Thursday is the problem — about six-tenths of an inch of heavy showers with a 39% chance, and it lands squarely on opening night for both varsity football programs.

Friday clears to 80° and partly cloudy. Saturday finishes warm at 85° with only light drizzle.

Troy went 4–0 last week. Four games, four wins, across two schools and two sports.

Troy High opened with a 3–1 win over Sterling Heights Stevenson at home Wednesday, then closed the week with a 2–0 shutout of Rochester Adams on Friday, also at home.

Athens had the headline result: a 3–0 win over Northville on Thursday, powered by Ameli and Dzebo — and notable because it was Kirk Hodges' debut as head coach at his own alma mater. The Oakland Press ran a photo gallery from the match.

Athens volleyball also took a 2–1 road win at Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook the same night.

The News

Turtle Woods will be Troy's first county park

Oakland County is developing a 70-acre natural area north of Square Lake Road into Turtle Woods, which will become the first county park located in Troy.

Plans call for accessible trails, boardwalks, a trailhead, parking and educational features throughout the site. The park is scheduled to open in fall 2027.

County begins removing invasive plants along major roadways

The Road Commission for Oakland County is partnering with the Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area to remove knotweed and Phragmites from major road corridors.

Both are non-native species that damage infrastructure, disrupt drainage, and create safety hazards by blocking sightlines at intersections. Expect to see crews working along right-of-ways in the coming weeks.

The Aramco LIV Golf Michigan Team Championship runs Wednesday through Saturday at The Cardinal at Saint John's Resort in Plymouth. Four-day passes and hospitality packages are available; Friday's round begins at 8:00 a.m.

Monday, August 24

Girls golf opens the week early: Athens plays the TB & LB Invitational at Flint Golf Club at 8:00 a.m., and Troy JV runs the MC & JG Scramble at Springdale.

Tuesday, August 25

First day of school — a half day for PK through 12 across the Troy School District. PK and kindergarten have half days Wednesday through Friday as well.

Troy High hosts Clarkston for boys soccer: JVB at 4:00, JV at 5:30, varsity at 7:00. Athens hosts Dearborn for volleyball at three levels, with varsity at 7:00. Athens soccer travels to Oxford, and cross country runs at Clawson.

Off campus, the Impact Business Community After Hours Social meets at Firebird Tavern.

Wednesday, August 26

The crosstown golf meeting: Troy varsity plays Athens at Sanctuary Lake at 3:00 p.m.

Boys tennis hosts Skyline at the Athens courts at 4:00. Troy volleyball hosts a tri-meet against Adams and OLSM at 5:30 in the main gym, while varsity travels to North Farmington. JV football opens on the road — Troy at Grosse Pointe North, Athens at Waterford Mott, both at 6:00.

Thursday, August 27

Varsity football opens, and both programs are home. Troy High hosts Grosse Pointe North at 7:00 p.m. at the THS stadium. Athens hosts Waterford Mott at 7:00 at the Athens stadium. Sideline cheer squads at both.

The golf rematch runs in reverse — Athens travels to Troy at Sylvan Glen at 3:00. Boys tennis is at Northville at noon, and cross country runs at Northville at 10:00 a.m.

Bring a rain jacket. Thursday's forecast calls for heavy showers.

Friday, August 28

Athens hosts Eisenhower for boys soccer across three levels — JVB at 4:00, JVA at 5:30, varsity at 7:15, all at the Athens stadium. Girls varsity swimming dives at Bloomfield Hills at 5:30.

Saturday, August 29

Girls varsity swimming competes in the Mercy Marlin Relays at Waterford Kettering, starting at noon.
