The Pershing Doughboys varsity basketball team closed out the calendar year with a gritty 55-53 victory over Pontiac on Tuesday. The win brings the Doughboys to a 4-3 overall record, a significant recovery after dropping their first two league games of the season.
The December stretch has been a rollercoaster for the Detroit program. After explosive offensive outings against Southfield A&T (90 points) and Brandon (73 points), the team faced a tough defensive wall in a loss to Summit Academy North. However, the narrow win against Pontiac suggests that Coach and his squad are learning how to grind out results in low-scoring environments.
