Crusaders Snap Skid with Big Win Over VASJ

The Martin Luther King Jr. Crusaders (4–5) are finding their rhythm after a grueling opening month. On Sunday, December 28, the Crusaders halted a three-game losing streak by defeating Ohio powerhouse Villa Angela-St. Joseph, 70–61. The victory serves as a crucial confidence booster for a squad that has been on the cusp of several major upsets this winter.

Despite the sub-.500 record, the Crusaders remain a dangerous threat in Division 1. Their season has been defined by "anytime, anywhere" competition, highlighted by a 41–40 defensive battle against defending state champion East Lansing and a high-scoring 76–71 shootout against rival Cass Tech.

January Outlook: The PSL Grind Begins

As the calendar turns to 2026, the Crusaders transition into the heart of league play. With match-ups against Renaissance and Hamtramck on the horizon, Coach AJ’s squad will look to use their height advantage and veteran guard play to climb the Detroit Public School League standings. The team’s performance in the upcoming Muskegon Big Reds Classic will be a key indicator of their readiness for a March playoff run.
