Southeastern High School Boys Basketball Update 12/31/2025

The Southeastern Jungaleers varsity basketball team is looking for a fresh start as they head into the new year. After a dominant 63-11 victory over Northwestern early in the month, the Jungaleers have faced a grueling schedule against some of the Detroit Public School League's (PSL) toughest competitors.
The mid-December stretch proved difficult for Southeastern, with road losses to powerhouse programs like Cass Tech and Mumford. Despite a spirited effort at home against the Central Trail Blazers on December 16, where the Jungaleers put up 57 points, they ultimately fell short by nine. Subsequent losses to Pershing and Flint’s New Standard Academy have brought the team’s current standing to 1-6.
Head Coach James Payne’s squad features a core of developing talent, including sophomore standout Dontez Williams and junior guard Jaydan Lowery. The team now enters a brief hiatus before returning to action on January 4 against Melvindale. With a long slate of league games remaining, including matchups against East English Village Prep and Renaissance, the Jungaleers have ample opportunity to climb back into the PSL standings.

Analyst Perspective
The Jungaleers' 1-6 record is a bit deceptive; they have faced three of the top-ranked teams in the district in a two-week span. The upcoming January schedule is significantly more balanced.
